School Meals
At St Margaret's at Troy Town children have the choice of a school dinner or packed lunch for their school meal.
If your child is in Reception/Rainbows, Year 1/Red Class or Year 2/Orange Class then all children are entitled to free universal school meals.
Caterlink are our school's meal provider. Everyday children will have the choice between a hot school dinner or a hot vegetarian option. If they prefer, then children can choose a jacket potato with either cheese, beans or tuna or they can have a school packed lunch with a choice of a ham, cheese or tuna baguette.
From September 2024, school dinners will cost £2.61 and payment should always be made through Caterlink’s online system.
Just a reminder that if your child is n Year 3/Yellow Class then they will no longer receive universal free schools meals and school dinners need to be paid for unless your child is entitled to free school meals.
Snacks
In the infants, children will receive a healthy snack every day. However, from Year 3 – Year 6 if children would like a snack during their morning playtime then they need to bring one to school with them. We want to ensure that children have the most appropriate fuel inside their bodies to help them learn every day. As such it is really important that children are eating healthy snacks; crisps, chocolate bars and sweets are not acceptable snacks for the children to eat at playtime, so please ensure that these are not provided. We would suggest that children have: Vegetable sticks – such as celery, cucumber, peppers or carrot, a range of colour ensures different vitamins and minerals. A piece of cheddar cheese or babybel A piece of fresh or dried fruit, high in soluble fibre and vitamins would also be a great snack– pineapple, mango, kiwi, plain raisins, apricots, blueberries, banana slices. Bread sticks, plain pretzels, banana bread, malt loaf, oat/rice cakes and small pitta breads are also good snacks, providing children with carbohydrate to sustain them in-between meals. Cereal bars such as flapjacks or other oat/whole grain based snacks Yoghurt tubes and pouches We hope that with your help, we can encourage the children to develop healthy eating habits that become a normal part of everyday life.
We are a nut free school. If someone has a nut allergy it is not just eating nuts that can cause a severe reaction, just being touched on the skin or smelling the breath of someone who has had nuts or a product containing nuts can trigger a reaction. We cannot have nuts in school in any form. So please, can we ask that you have no nut products in children’s lunch boxes or brought into the school as snacks. This includes any Nutella based products.
Water Bottles
All children will be provided with a new reusable water bottle in September with your child’s name on it. We need the children to stay hydrated, so please ensure they have their water bottle in school daily. Squash and fruit juice are not permitted – water only please. With your help, we can encourage the children to develop healthy habits that support their health and wellbeing.
