St Margaret's at Troy Town CE Primary School

Special Educational Needs

At St Margaret’s at Troy Town we are ambitious for all pupils, including those with SEND.  We strive to support all children to enable them to achieve well at school, be inspired and flourish both academically and personally.

We use a clear, graduated approach to identify needs early and provide the right level of support at the right time.

High quality inclusive teaching is the first step in supporting pupils with SEND. Class teachers adapt learning to enable access to the curriculum and where needed, additional targeted support is provided to help pupils achieve their individual targets and reach their full potential.

The class teacher remains responsible for each pupil's progress and works closely with the SEND team to plan and review any additional provision.

SEND Team

Our SEND team works in partnership with class teachers, TAs, families and external professionals to ensure support is carefully matched to need.

Responsibilities of the SEND Team

 Mrs Callaghan

As the SENDCos at St Margaret’s at Troy Town I am responsible for the operation of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Policy and co-ordination of specific provision made to support individual children with SEND. I work closely with teachers to monitor pupils' progress, evaluate the impact of support and refine provision where progress is not yet where we would expect it to be.  As well as support from Miss Dexter (Our Trust Lead SENDCo), I have contact with a wide range of external professionals such as educational psychologists, speech and language therapists and specialist advisory services. The full range of SENDCo responsibilities can be found in the 2015 SEND Code of Practice.

Mrs Lynne Townsend (Home School Support Worker):

I am the Home School Support Worker at St Margaret’s at Troy Town. My role is to strengthen communication between school, families and external services, helping to remove barriers and support pupils' wellbeing. I endeavour to help children reach their full potential by helping overcome barriers to learning including; friendship difficulties; attendance, or self-esteem problems, through to family worries such as bereavement and relationship changes.

"We have a calm down box, if someone is frustrated they can use it."

"I can put a note in the Bee Box to ask for help."

"Mrs Hughes is the one I can talk to if something happens."

"When I need to calm down there is always a teacher that can help me."

"I have dyslexia and I have a CPEN it helps me when I need to read something I use it.  I scan over the paper and it reads the word."

"I got shown different ways to do fractions and that helped me."

"Miss is very kind.  I have a shelf with books and fidgets on -my own shelf."

" Fidgets help me concentrate and learn and sensory circuits help me get ready."

"I am expected to try my best.  It doesn't mean doing everything right, it's trying my best that matters."

"Teachers are kind and give you support when you feel stuck."

"Sensory circuits eases me into the green zone.  That is better for focusing."
