It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to St Margaret’s at Troy Town Church of England Primary School – a school where we are incredibly proud of our caring, inclusive and family atmosphere, rooted in our deeply Christian ethos.
Our vision, ‘Letting Your Light Shine’, is at the heart of everything we do. It enables every member of our SMATT family to feel valued, supported and inspired to flourish. We want our children to recognise their own unique gifts and talents, to use them with confidence and compassion, and to be a light for others – within our school, our community and the wider world.
Our vision is founded on Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount:
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

We learn and grow together through our Christian values of Community, Respect, Perseverance and Hope. Alongside these, our three simple expectations - Ready, Respectful, Safe – help create a calm, positive environment in which every child understands both their right to learn and their responsibility to enable others to do the same.
I am delighted that our June 2026 Ofsted inspection recognised the strength of what we have built together at St Margaret’s, judging the school to be at a Strong standard in every area inspected. Inspectors recognised the significant improvements made across the school and highlighted the strength of pupils’ achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, early years, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing.
Perhaps most importantly, Ofsted captured what it feels like to be a child at our school:
“At St Margaret’s at Troy Town, pupils are consistently welcoming, respectful and highly motivated to learn.”
Inspectors also recognised that our children “fully embrace the school’s vision to let their light shine”, finding learning interesting and enjoyable and receiving the support they need to thrive alongside their peers.
We have high expectations for every child. Our ambitious and carefully sequenced curriculum is designed to build knowledge and skills over time, while being thoughtfully adapted so that all pupils can participate and succeed. Ofsted recognised that teaching across the curriculum is consistently effective and that adaptations successfully enable pupils who face barriers to learning or wellbeing to access the curriculum.
Inclusion is central to who we are and at the heart of everything we do. We know our children and families well and work hard to remove barriers so that every child, including those with SEND and those who may need additional support, can flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. We were particularly proud that Ofsted described our vision for inclusion as “ambitious and deeply embedded”, with inclusive practice integral to the culture of our school.
Academic success matters greatly to us, and our children achieve very well. Ofsted recognised that improvements to our curriculum and teaching have resulted in markedly higher outcomes, with pupils’ performance at the end of Key Stage 2 consistently high. Inspectors also highlighted the strong achievement of disadvantaged pupils and the high-quality work pupils produce across the curriculum.
However, education at St Margaret’s extends far beyond academic outcomes. We want children to leave us as confident, compassionate, curious and responsible young people. Through outdoor learning, educational visits, visitors, music, sport, leadership opportunities, worship and opportunities to serve others, we seek to broaden children's horizons and help them discover where their own light can shine. Ofsted recognised the wide range of enrichment opportunities available to pupils and the positive impact of our approach to personal development and wellbeing.
Our children are rightly proud of their school. They value learning beyond the classroom, celebrate difference and enjoy coming together to reflect, learn about the wider world and celebrate one another’s achievements. They also take on a wide range of leadership responsibilities, helping them to develop confidence, responsibility and a genuine sense of contribution to their school community.
None of this would be possible without the commitment of our wonderful staff, the support of our families, governors, and wider community, and, of course, our fantastic children. Together, we have created a school in which relationships are kind and respectful, children feel that they belong, and everyone is encouraged to flourish. Ofsted also recognised this partnership, noting that parents and carers are highly positive about the school and particularly value its inclusive ethos and pastoral care.
We are extremely proud of our school and equally excited about its future. Our journey continues as we strive to ensure that every child receives the very best opportunities and experiences we can provide.
